The W.W. Ward Scholarship, a History of Devotion
The Harris College of Nursing has been blessed with a number of strong contributors who have helped to establish and expand it over the years. But one man stood out with a unique sense of devotion to the school. The Rev. Dr. W. W. Ward, a 25-year member of the Harris College of Nursing board of directors, made a lasting contribution through his efforts as scholarship chairman of the board.
Dr. Ward's dedication to providing funds for nursing students began before the school was established, and continued through the years. He worked to promote the creation of a scholarship endowment fund through the Harris Methodist Health System, where he had served as chaplain / commissioner. He solicited funds from as many sources as possible, including churches and individuals, to meet the urgent needs of the students.
A labor of love for Dr. Ward, his seemingly endless dedication continues to benefit students of the Harris College of Nursing. Dr. Ward was recognized by the Harris Methodist Health System for his efforts in fundraising by naming the scholarship fund the W. W. Ward Endowment Fund of Harris Methodist Health System. And so, through the devotion and concern of an extraordinary man, present and future students of the Harris College of Nursing may receive help in funding their education.
